Thrifting adventure... Vintage wool skirt & Chevron cardigan

One of my good friends and I went on a thrifting adventure and had a great time! Since we were on the outskirts of the city we found lots of cool things. Among those were my vintage wool wrap skirt, vintage blue travel box, and brown chevron cardigan.

Sadly, I can't remember the name of the store we happened upon first. Shortly after, we found the thrift store that we were actually searching for...America's Thriftstore.

 America's Thriftstore had a wide variety of things old and new, and overstock from various department stores. For some reason, I didn't like it as much the store we accidentally found first. It was trying to be organized confusion...which can be frustrating for me. (I guess because I'm weird)



This is the brown chevron cardigan that I found at America's Thriftstore.
Again, the selection wasn't really that spectacular, but the prices were great! Most tops ranged from $1-$4. This particular cardigan was $3.88. I only found that and a really cute surprise for my dear friend who will be coming back from India soon! =D

These brand new, long wide leg pants were the result of a recent thrifting adventure as well.

I heart this handmade, leather beaded bracelet that I purchased from the "mysterious thriftstore" that I can't name. It was just a dollar and some change, what luck!

Lovely Leather Chair & Wicker woven tray

Aaaand we're back! 

Hey guys,  good to talk to you again! I've been on a bit of a hiatus, but the thrifting doesn't stop. I have some new goodies to share with you too!

That said... you might not know, but I am semi obsessed with chairs. I haven't really figured out why yet but, the love is definitely there. Last week I was strolling through Goodwill and I saw this beautiful leather and wood chair, right next to another leather and wood chair. Two different styles and centuries, but the same color wood and leather! I knew that I had to get the older of the two, and after some cleaning and light re-upholstering of the bottom, It was good as new!

 A steal at $12.

I just wanna put a soft, fuzzy white pillow in it. ::sigh::

You could tell that the owner of this chair also donated a few other great pieces. Among those were a neat wicker and leather bench (that got snatched up before I could get to it) and a really neat metal, horse hair and leather stool/ottoman. I wanted the ottoman but I used my editing skills to make sure I didn't over-spend. The legs were bent and would be an unpleasant surprise to sit or place something on.

I love this tray and it will soon be a wall ornament! I found it at a thrift store called FODAC (Friends of Disabled Adults and Children).  They provide medical supplies to disabled adults and children, which are funded in part by their thrift store. This place is very cheap on clothing, and they often have great furniture. I'm talking $3.00 brand new $69 jeans cheap. (More on that later)

And last but not least....

I wanted a magazine rack...specifically one that looked like this vintage gold faux bamboo one. I was too excited when I saw it on my way to purchase the leather chair. I just think this magazine stand is really classic looking. Pretty sure I saw it in a decor magazine and the craving started from there.
After I get tired of looking at it gold, imagine how cool it could be spray painted cerulean blue, hot pink, or tangerine.

Color block, train of thought. Thrifting success part 2.

This week I also purchased some yellow pants and cool animal print loafers, that I've been wanting for a while. (Now if I can just find red pants. hehe...)

Since I was posting my finds I decided "hey why not post an outfit too". I guess this is my first "official color block" though me and a couple of my dear friends thought it was fun probably before it was "cool". Ha. Anyway...

I actually wore this top and hat with dark skinny jeans and cowboy boots today, I think I was feeling some sorta way.

I've been thrifting with a "goal" in mind lately. This is definitely not something I'm used to because I'm always getting ideas as I shop.  I'm not sure if that's a good strategy, because it doesn't limit what I'm buying. What do you think?  Ha! Well we will see how this goes.

Indigo Jeans and Red Blouse... Thrifting Success!

This week has finally come to an end... well almost. I finished up with some great finds and I'm super happy!  Let's start out with my awesome mommy jeans.  In my last post "Monday Thrifting Adventure" I talked about the retro jeans that I wanted specifically vintage high-waist, bell bottom.

I found something similar and better than I imagined... AH! They have an interesting white rope detail around the waist and back pockets, they're a dark indigo and they're really durable. I'm so happy because I started thinking about buying these on Yoox.com.

 Glad I didn't.

At two different Value Villages I sifted through thousands of jeans before I found them... for $3.50! Unfortunately VV doesn't have fitting rooms and I cannot buy jeans that I haven't tried on. 
Annnnd I did not follow my own rule. WEAR LEGGINGS when I'm on the prowl for jeans!
Which brings me to....

Defined:  The Changing Tent Maneuver

I ended up having to cleverly morph into the jeans in the open. Basically if you've never done it before this move is a LIFESAVER!  For those of you who don't know this is how you do it. 

1. Find a long, bulky prarie skirt, you're gonna need some room in the tent. (And a mirror) lol
2. Put the skirt on over your jeans, waistline just above your belly button.
3. Now wiggle out of your jeans and slip on the other pair (all under the skirt of course)!
4. Remove hideous prarie skirt
5. Look in the mirror....love jeans/hate jeans
6. Put prarie skirt back on, and Repeat

After I've worn these jeans around a bit I can tell why our parents were horrified by the low and extra low rise jeans that became trendy.  However, I find these vintage jeans much more "sexy"... they give you curves where you have none! Trust me... better yet, go find some!
