August Musings + Self Portrait #1

I’ve been wearing my hair like this for some time. It went from being an in-between style to a summer staple.

Small plaits all over with uneven parts.

They used to feel 'childish' to me. Never grown up enough.

Now, I think the best part about them is just that.
They make me feel  whimsical and childlike again.
And for the summertime
what better feeling?

Especially now.

Also–this is currently my favorite dress. Getting dressed, for me, has become more and more about ease of dressing, skin-feel, and practicality.

I’ve never really been the type to wear something completely uncomfortable, but now it’s imperative my outfits are easy and make sense for the type of day I’m having.

Work Wear Thrifted, Outfit(s) of the Day

Last week I had a few outfits that I wanted to post, but time was not on my side. Here is a look from last week... and one from today!

  • Blouse, Kasper - thrifted, Goodwill
  • Slacks, Express Studio - thrifted, Goodwill
  •                                                   Pearl earrings, Angie's
  • Scarf, Gift

I love this blouse and scarf combo... together they look like one of those pussybow blouses that I like. I heart this outfit because It's simple, but the patterns and colors kept it from being too boring.
It was perfect for that particular day too, because It was one of those "I just rolled out of bed with the intent to wear what I picked out the night before, but now I hate it" mornings.

Today....

  • African print men's/kid's shirt - thrifted, Goodwill
  • Purple vintage stretch belt- yardsale
  • Skirt- gift
  • Thigh high boots- Burlington
  • Red cube earrings- gift

Lately I've been wanting to wear more skirts so today I actually made it out the house without changing into pants. It was cold today, but I was comfy in my thigh high boots that I rolled down, fishnets and this long flouncy paneled skirt. (It does that thing when you spin) lol.

The men's top was placed in the women's section in Goodwill, and against all of the things around it, it stood out. I love a busy print so I had to have it. It wasn't until I tried it on (that moment when the buttons on the wrong side totally trick your brain) I realized that it was a man's shirt. Actually I think it was a kid's shirt. Eh...whatever. I love it either way.

This purple belt came from a yardsale years ago in Arkansas. ::Memories:: Yardsales used to be so much fun, I have to start going like I used to when I was a kid with mom. :)

Who wants to get up early with me and go?! Getting up is the hard part.

Outfit of the day... Grey Wool Blazer

Today I wanted to wear my sunny yellow pants for the first time outside... instead of just playing dress up. Ha! I toned them down a bit with this blue and white 3/4 length button down, grey wool blazer, and leopard print belt. The fun thing about prints is that you can mix and match them. The key is getting the right two or three together. If its your first time try one large (bolder) and one smaller, that way they don't compete, but harmonize. I wish you could see in detail...ah well.

(Oh I wore tan leather cowboy boots)

    • Pink hair scarf- Thanks mom!
    • Vintage gold flower earrings - gift, thanks Meek!
    • Button down Tommy shirt - thrifted, Goodwill
    • Textured leopard belt- thrifted, Goodwill
    • Yellow pants- thrifted, Goodwill
    • Talbots grey wool blazer - thrifted, Goodwill

Here's a shirt and tie combination I like...I love shirts and ties.
Can I also say that this is the only reason why I enjoy Sports Center and NFL hosts... Shannon Sharpe's color and print combinations are always interesting.

Speaking of which, tomorrow is my first day at my desk job. The code is business casual... I have an idea of what I'm gonna wear but I still need to mull it over a bit. Thrifted pea green JCrew skirt, but what top?  Hmm... Pictures later.

Business casual... what does that mean at your job?
(Though it shouldn't, it probably varies!) Lol.
